Marble

How to polish marble?

There are three methods to polishing marble, all of which should be performed by trained stone craftsmen. Coatings include waxes, acrylics, floor finishes and urethanes that are applied to the marble surface. Coatings can provide a temporary luster to marble but may discolor over time and may need to be removed and reapplied over time. Crystallization is a controversial process, which requires the use of chemicals, steel wool and an electrical powered buffing machine. Note, the Marble Institute of America (MIA) does not endorse this process. Powder polishing uses superfine abrasives and oxalic acid to achieve a deep shine on marble surfaces. For more information on polishing marble visit the MIA website or contact us for a referral to professional companies that specialize in refinishing and restoration of natural stone.
